Support for Senior Community members during the Covid-19 pandemic
Community Companions is an initiative to support the elderly, vulnerable and isolated members of the community in the London Borough of Hounslow.
For this project, we will depend on your assistance to identify anyone within your knowledge of family, friends and neighbours who has somehow fallen through the gaps in the community care system. The help required may be regular or one-off. We will do our best to provide what they need, or otherwise direct them appropriately.
In addition to the regular services offered at HMC since the beginning of the Covid-19 era, a telephone befriending scheme is underway. Clients will be matched with volunteers, and will be able to find comfort in a regular, sympathetic and empathic listener.
Through this, online workshops, and drop-in sessions at the centre, we hope to improve the emotional and, thereby, physical condition of the client, and to help empower them for the future.
In addition to identifying those in need of this service, we require as many volunteers as possible who are willing to share their time and talent in this role. You would be an important part of this project, and your ideas would be heard. Any efforts made by you in fundraising and research would be a great boost to your contribution.
The training given will be part and parcel of career progression for people of all ages. In these difficult times it is hard to find volunteer work required by the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, or for CVs and UCAS applications, and this is an excellent opportunity for such purposes.
The experience involved will benefit each and every one of us for a lifetime.
